Our story
Alessandro Baccini, Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer of Chloris, dedicated two decades to developing methodologies for measuring and monitoring vegetation and biomass from space, pioneering scientific breakthroughs that are the foundation of our work.
Meanwhile, Marco Albani, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, trained as an ecosystem scientist at Harvard University, dedicating years to sustainability and conservation and blending business and science throughout his consulting career.
During this time, they both encountered a widespread lack of understanding and especially a lack of data regarding how changes in land use impact carbon stored in vegetation. With the growing number of companies starting to take responsibility for their impact on natural capital, Alessandro and Marco knew there was a need and opportunity for better data sources and best practices in analyzing forests and natural resources.
They joined forces with Mark Friedl, who served on science teams for NASA and taught at Boston University, and Giulio Boccaletti, a climate scientist at Princeton University, MIT, and The Nature Conservancy.
In 2021, driven by their shared vision and fueled by the desire to make the science available to the market, the four founded Chloris Geospatial to provide business-friendly, reliable data to accelerate the transition to a nature-positive future.
