The Chloris REDD+ Library is here
The protection and restoration of forests is a critical climate solution. While global climate investment is at an all-time high, the last 12 months have shown a significant retreat in voluntary carbon finance for REDD+ projects, designed to avoid deforestation and degradation.
The discussion on the impact of REDD+ projects is often focused on the “baseline,” or the counterfactual: What would have happened in the absence of the project? But from an atmospheric CO₂ concentration point of view, key questions are: How much carbon does woody vegetation actually absorb as a consequence of its growth, and how much does it emit, because it is lost or degraded? And, in sum, is a carbon project involving those processes a net sink or a net source of emissions?
This is the perspective that Chloris provides.
Today, we are excited to launch the Chloris REDD+ Project Library. This unprecedented resource currently includes 51 VCS-registered AUDD projects from around the world (see full list included at the bottom of this page). It sheds new light on the climate impact of forest conservation projects.
With the Library, you can see which projects are actual carbon sinks. You can investigate the carbon removals and forest area gains achieved through vegetation growth. You can also see how degradation and forest area losses impact the carbon performance of projects- and much more.
Have a look at our short walk-through video to get a demo of what is included. As a showcase example of what you get with Chloris, we made our analysis of the Kariba REDD+ project available for free on the Chloris Platform.
For a limited time, we are offering an early-bird rate for a 12-month subscription to the Library for USD 4999. This early-bird offer is valid until 31 December 2023 and includes access to any REDD+ projects that we may add to the Library during 2024.
In addition to increasing the REDD+ Library, we will also release our analysis of ARR and IFM projects from around the world in the coming months. Stay tuned.
Carbon Markets are an instrument to reward local communities for the climate impact achieved by forest conservation and restoration. This should include the impact achieved beyond avoided emissions and also account for the carbon removals achieved by protected forests. We firmly believe that the data we create radically improve our ability to understand the real climate impact of projects and reward local communities accordingly.
